Mars in Motion

Mars is steadily moving eastward across the constellation Scorpius the Scorpion. Mars is currently passing past the 2nd magnitude star Graffias, one of the scorpion’s pincers. In these two pictures you can get a sense of how much of the sky Mars covers each day.

Caution: Objects viewed with an optical aid are further than they appear.
