Mars Meet Venus

Monday morning November 2nd the inner planet Venus will be within 1o from the planet Mars offering not only a striking conjunction (with Jupiter above them) but also a chance to compare apparent magnitudes. Venus shines at -4.33; Mars at 1.69; and Jupiter at -1.82. The tail of the Lion, Denebola has an apparent magnitude of 2.12.

I have been taking pictures of the planets during the past month whenever my work schedule and the weather allowed it. You can see how the planets, including Mercury, have shifted in their respective orbits during the past month. Click here to see the pictures.

Caution: Objects viewed with an optical aid are further than they appear.
