The Reason for Moon Phases

Moon set over Thimble Peak   Yesterday the Moon reached first quarter phase. We all should know that the Moon goes through its cycle of phase change appearances as a result of the relative positions of the Earth, Moon, and Sun. We see what we see of the Moon as a result of that angle and the reflection of sunlight. However I have uncovered, literally, an alternate reason for Moon phases. Click here to see how we have Moon phases.

Caution: Objects viewed with an optical aid are further than they appear.
